Cd give?

So, I've been thinking of this idea for a week or so, it's mostly to brighten spirits.

I'm thinking in February, during the peak of SAD and depression, if anyone has old discmen lying around their homes, we could make cds with happy, up-lifting songs on it and give the discman, a set of headphones and the cd to someone who is homeless and then they can pass it on to other people they know when they need their spirits lifted as well.

Anyone in?

Oh my how long it's been!
I finally devised a CD worthy of dropping.

Story: On new years day I was, of course, hung over like no one's business. I had the idea of this CD in my head for a few days but I finally decided to make it when I got home at 2pm from the party.

It's Sleepy Time Music.

Music to sleep to listen to when you're not feeling well (from a hangover or other). Loud noises, bursts of sound and the like are not found on this CD.

That's my kitty sleeping on my bed. It printed with somewhat heavy red ink for some reason even though it's BW. I'm going to draw little music notes coming from the right.

A screencap of songs from iTunes lol
..but I'll be handwriting it on the sleeve

and Finally, I'll be in the city on Monday afternoon around a U of T residence so it'll be dropped around there or the subway station that I plan on getting off of.. which I don't know yet because I haven't actually looked it up.

..Maybe I'll find a mattress store or something.. or not lol

I ended up dropping it at the Harvey's on Yonge and Bloor.. I just placed it on my table when I left.
But sorta bad news, I wrote the community URL without the underscore. STILL I put my email address so hopefully someone will email me

First Timer.

Kay, so I was reading a blog and it had the question "what is your favorite love song?" and because I'm unoriginal and it's February; I took some songs from there and some of my own and made my very first mix cd. I don't know if the songs are a great mix together, but I tried. So I hope you like it.

I just dropped outside of the Lawrence subway station in one of the free daily newspaper boxes.
heavy manners

how i wish this existed a few years ago

i used to do this before my comp crashed, and i lost all my tracklists (and had no spare copies of my cds to reburn etc...)
i wish you all luck with whatever you're trying to do. i never got any commens (except for the ones online) for any of the dozen cds i made (totalling 100s of copies). i even got people to help distribute them around the world. it ain't just toronto that's too cool. anyways i'll keep my eyes out.

Once again from E-town!

Well, I've been meaning to make another drop for some time, and I've been working on this mix for a little while in my head now. It started out as a breakup album and then it just started included anything I felt like. My current plan is to go to the Salvation Army shop and see if I can slip it into the pocket of a nice coat.

"But It Seemed So Absurd / After Only Three Days"
1. Oh Susanna – The Fall
2. Weezer – El Scorcho
3. ATB – Let U Go [Club Mix]
4. Fembots – Broken & Blue
5. LostProphets – Last Train Home
6. Carissa’s Weird – Farewell To All These Rotten Teeth
7. Smashing Pumpkins – This Time
8. Reflekt f/ Delline Bass – Need To Feel Loved [Original Mix]
9. Leonard Cohen – Bird On The Wire
10. The Wrens – Boys, You Won’t
11. Dismemberment Plan – The Jitters
12. Blonde Redhead – Equus
13. Low + Dirty Three – I Hear… Goodnight
14. Zadia Lenders – Six Days

As an aside, the one song I really wish was on here was "Feela" by Lamb. But on the album, it has a secret track (a "Cotton Wool" remix) tacked on, so it's like 17 minutes long. Harumph. As aside #2, would any breakup album really be complete without "El Scorcho"?

Contest time.

Alright ladies and gentlemen, we all know the holiday season is upon us. There is snow on the ground, a chill in the air, and brown slush on the TTC. What better way to celebrate than to hold a contest?

Here's the deal. We want YOU to make a winter/x-mas/holiday themed mix, then drop it somewhere in the lovely city of Toronto. You get bonus points for making a nice holder for the CD. Try and drop your mix in a creative area! Somewhere christmas-y, or that is reminiscent of the holiday season. You can include kind wishes, candy, or anything (legal) you want with your CD. Go crazy! Drop 5 or 6 copies of your mix! The more, the better~

Once you've done that, post in the community, telling us where you dropped your album, what tracks were on it, and what made it unique. You'll get SUPER bonus points if the person who picks it up emails you back. Spread the word to your friends and family. It will be a jolly good time, I promise.

I'm taking suggestions for prizes. :D

A buncha' other communities are getting into the holiday spirit, so I figured us droppers ought to participate too.

What say you all to a great mix cd exchange? Winteresque themed, or otherwise.

It could even involve all the other mix dropping communities too!

oooo very misleading cover. (don't judge a mixcd by its cover!)
